Vacation Hotspots

The city is often pretty dead on the 4th of July (the east side was anyway). I went to several Starbucks establishments throughout the day to either cool off or just hydrate, if not momentarily, but they were all pretty empty. Again, the city as a whole was pretty empty but I figured Starbucks would be packed with people trying to escape the heat but it was just the opposite. The few people I saw in the various (otherwise) "hot" spots were pretty listless (likely from the heat) and nobody seemed very interested in much of anything - not each other; not even themselves. They were just sort of lingering in the misery of this ongoing heatwave that I think we're all just getting a little tired of. Can you blame us?

The last thing I could think about on a 90+ degree day in NYC was coffee but a frosty frappuccino smothered in caramel, well, that's always appealing :) The only problem was that I think every person in the city had exactly the same idea because every Starbucks I walked by was packed with a bunch of sweaty New Yorkers (like myself) trying to find a reprieve from the heat with a few minutes of air conditioning and a cold, caffeinated drink.
No one was feeling very chatty on this, the longest, (and hottest) day of the year. While I'm sure everyone is happy summer is finally (officially) here, we may all be a bit more apt to express it when we can actually go outside and sit in Central Park with our Tall, Grande, Venti whatevers and have some fun!

I love my city. Anyone who follows my blog knows I am about as loyal to NYC as most dogs are to their owners but we have become a city that has forgotten how to have normal, polite conversations with people. Everyone is busy checking their dating profiles on their laptops in Starbucks instead of just saying hello to the person at the table next to them. I've actually seen people feverishly searching online for dates while sitting next to some of the most gorgeous people and not even noticing. It is actually pretty sad. While people have their faces buried in an iphone or laptop, their dream date could be standing right next to them waiting for the light to change. Well, here's a wake up call-pay attention people! Life is happening all around you and you're missing it ;-)

Sorry
I know I've been away too long and I deeply apologize. I've been way too busy but I'm back!!! Get your digs in (you're entitled). For those of you with abandonment issues, you should be especially pissed and I don't blame you but I was thinking of you. It was for reasons beyond my control that I couldn't maintain the site but we have lots to talk about in the coming weeks/months so tune in...

Starbucks - Long Island
I've been "touring" local LI Starbucks locations and all I can say is...I'm a city girl at heart. But, I digress. If you are all business, the Starbucks in Lake Success (next to Duane Reade) is the one for you. It is mostly businessmen/women and/or doctors and nurses on their way to/from work at one of the local area hospitals. The Starbucks on the service road of the L.I.E. and Little Neck Parkway is a little bigger and people are pretty friendly but my favorite is the one on Northern Blvd. in Great Neck for the simple fact that it is a drive-thru! Love that! Doesn't give much opportunity to socialize but that's okay because it is always packed, the parking lot is always full and you can almost never find a seat inside anyway. Long live the drive-thru!

General
I haven't posted in a while but someone I love and respect asked me today if I was going to continue posting so I'm taking a vote. If there is any interest in this blog, I promise to post religiously. If not, we'll see. All comments are welcome. Thanks! :-)
